In-VET Project: Preventing initial VET dropouts and fostering trainee’s inclusion

Description

Description

In most European countries, the issue of Dropouts is more evident and challenging than ever. Nevertheless, considerable efforts must be put into practice to reduce the active population low educational levels. By developing successful strategies to prevent and deal with this phenomenon it is expected that the National VET systems will produce more skilled workers that are needed for the actual and future high-tech modern economies and to accomplish the Europe 2020 strategy.

Besides, it must be considered that the young early leavers of today are likely to claim social benefits, putting pressure on state resources in the future. EU macro data shows that almost 50% of the EU pupils in upper secondary levels are attending iVET studies and thus, dropouts or young trainees at risk of dropping out in iVET is part of the broader issue of early education and training leaving.

In-VET was born from the concept approached by two successful European initiatives that tackle the issue of dropouts – The School Inclusion Project and Stop Dropout!.

This European initiative is designed to support VET teachers, school managers, vocational & educational counsellors and all VET professionals to detect, at an early stage, trainees at potential risk of dropping out from the school system. In detail, In-Vet aims at developing a toolkit to be available at an online training and resource center, including networking features, targeting iVET Managers, Trainers and Tutors/Counsellors:

1. Allowing them to develop skills to detect at an earlier stage trainees at risk of dropping out the VET system and to design and implement suitable strategies to deal with this phenomenon in their daily training sessions.

2. Enabling them to prevent the increase of earlier leavers rates and reduce the current rates by designing and implementing “action plans” aimed at generating more attractiveness of the iVET offers at their institutions.

The Stop Dropout project focuses on finding at-risk individuals, evaluating their needs and providing them with flexible support. It consists of three tools that counsellors and administrators can use at various school levels, educational centres and other institutions. The tools are based on a holistic approach with the focus on the individual and his/her future opportunities.
