Description
- Description
-
Since their introduction in 1987, European mobility programmes supporting work placements abroad have registered a constant but modest increase in the number of beneficiaries.
Still a low percentage of students from VET go abroad as part of their educational path.
The recent boost of allocated budget, from the European Commission within the LLL Programme as well as from certain member countries in northern Europe via national dedicated funding, is going to amplify the volume of exchanges but a multiplier effects is required if we are to achieve the objective of 80.000 VET students going abroad each year.
The European Commission has financed three major research projects (2005-2007) to increase mobility in VET and, among them, the MoVe-iT initiative have been focusing on fostering: “the development of transnational mobility leading to qualifications as an integral element of vocational training pathways at European level, by identifying all the obstacles to such development and concrete solutions for overcoming them.”
Based on the results of these research initiatives, Europemobility stimulates both quantity and quality of mobility in VET, by promoting awareness on the obstacles as well as on the tools, methodologies and solutions available. The main barriers to mobility may be summarized in the following categories:-> Legal and administrative obstacles
-> Quality
-> Sustainable strategies
-> Support mechanisms
-> Communities of practice and Awareness

- The EU move 2 project contributes to solutions in overcoming obstacles to mobility of students, individuals and workers.
There will be set up a network around an existing portal with services to facilitate and improve mobility in a quantitative and qualitative way. For students and workers this will result in higher employability and improvement of personal and professional skills. For training centres this means setting up more flexible, individual based learning pathways and collaboration with other training centres and companies at EU level.
The project EU Move 2 is a sequel to the earlier project EU Move. EU Move 2 aims the development and deployment of the practical side of the web portal. A network of partners from the countries will be set up. The partner in each country will deliver high quality training companies to ensure a high quality web portal. This is a direct positive impact on the quality and quantity of international work placement.

- The transnational mobility of workers is expected to become the key issue of the European labour policy in the next years.
Mobility should be a reality available for all European citizens, in order to support people’s employability. By 2020 an EU average of at least 6% of 18 – 34 year olds with initial VET qualification should have had an initial VET-related study or training period abroad lasting a minimum of two weeks.
The PreMo project intends to support all those regional and local administration that want prepare themselves to this major challenge, by defining adequate models and tools able to support preparatory activities addressing young people willing to carry out mobility.
