EVME – EVent Managers in Europe



Event Management is one of the fastest growing business activities in Europe, especially in the cultural sector. However, most European countries lack qualificational coherence, standards, and training/teaching paths. Within the EU, only the UK and Germany have some kind of national standards recognized both by industry and public authorities. Answering the needs of European-wide Event Managers, the EVME project will use UK materials in order to design a path towards European standard for Event Management and to enhance the training activities/materials and the mobility of workers within the cultural sector. The project will focus on the learning materials developed and used in the UK to achieve the Event Manager qualification standards. These materials have been developed and the main objective is to enhance, adapt, and transfer these materials for (and in) Italy, Portugal, France, and Poland, so that vocational learners can be supported to achieve a standard of competence that was initially developed in the UK and could become relevant for Event Managers who are mobile across European borders and beyond. The project will design a training path (workshop sessions) to accelerate the transfer of these materials.

    Innovative Concept for Internationalizing Companies (IC&IC)
    The IC&IC project aims to enhance the knowledge of internal and external consultants as well as middle and top managers of companies in internationalizing businesses. It enables companies to work in an international economical context, to react to the market demands, to become more dynamic and flexible and to operate successfully in the globalized business environment. Until now, on the Romanian vocational training system a training course for internationalizing companies hasn’t been introduced before. According to the actual socio-economic scenario, the “Innovative Concept for Internationalizing companies” project main goal is to develop the individuals and organizational competences in supporting Romanian companies’ strategic and international competitiveness, also in terms of improved capacities in managing business environment’s changes and labour market’s evolvement in the internationalization context; the main objectives are to implement an innovative internationalizing companies programme and the to create job enrichment for increasing companies’ international activities – based on the dynamic transfer and adaptation of the “Internationalization Consulting” curriculum and methodology successfully developed and implemented in seven European countries during a previous Leonardo da Vinci project partnership.
    The goals and objectives are proposed by the project’s Consortium, which was specially created in order to lead to the successfully achievement of the project. Composition of the Consortium relies on the diverse and complementary competences and experience of the partners, the consortium as a whole expresses the critical competences required for effectively achieving the project’s results.

2. LLP project or related resource

    Work experience and the enhancement of intercultural competencies during the VET
    The aim of the exchange was an enhancement of language, social and cultural competence of the participating apprentices. Preparation: All participants had English basics in their school education before the apprenticeship. Before the exchange started, the apprentices were taught 10 English lessons for a short repetition. Cultural and social informations about the Norwegians were additionally given to them. The travel was organised by the respective project leader in Norway. He arranged everything about work, cultural trips and accommodation. All apprentices worked for 4 weeks in a Norwegian Company in their respective job. During the week and especially at the weekends they all took part in cultural excursions. They lived mostly in guest families and experienced thereby the social and family live of our hosts. Back to Germany the participants had to write a report about the time in Norway. The report included mostly the time in the company, describing the live at work. Also the cultural excursions and the
    social live in the spare time and in the host families were reported. An evaluation paper was filled out and is enclosed to that report. A presentation in the exchange language (English) was held in front of the leaders of the program and the training department, done by the participants. All apprentices got an attestation for their participation in the exchange program. This attestation is added to their personal file.

    Transfer of experiential and innovative teaching methods for business education
    Overall aim of the project was – to transfer and develop experiential and innovative teaching methods contributing to the quality of business education. The specific project aim was – to embed case teaching method within Polish, Lithuanian, as well as other partner countries business education through enhancing trainers’ competencies to write and teach using case method. The Lisbon European Council in March 2000 set a strategic goal for Europe to become the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world. The Lisbon conclusions stressed the central role of education and training as the main instrument to increase human capital. Most of the managers are only partially satisfied with the training of the employees. The main reason why employers consider training as not sufficiently effective is – lack of Training institutions capable to carry out effective training; Inability to apply new knowledge in practice; lack of employee interest, etc. Analyzing so far available materials and good practises of a number of training providers the most effective methods for diminishing the gap between theory and practise is “Case” teaching method, used by a number best known schools all over the world. However case teaching method is still an innovation to be transferred to CEEC.
    The specific project aim was to embed case teaching method within Consortium business education through enhancing trainers’ competencies to write and teach using case method.

    uro Paths – Language Learning and Vocational Training in crosscultural issues
    EURO PATHS, a language learning programme, was specifically developed for extra-occupational, international practical training internships within the framework of an EU-sponsored LEONARDO project. Language teachers and teamers from Denmark, Finland, Germany and Slovakia all contributed to its development.It offers an opportunity to learn a foreign language while focussing on job-related content matter. Accordingly, it can promote communication at the workplace and provide a feeling of greater self-assurance in the host country.
    It will be available both as an online learning programme and as a CD-ROM and is designed for those without prior knowledge of the given language. It is set up to simulate a potential practical training and is divided up into ten "travel days". By means of dialogues and exercises, it should impart practical language usage needed for living and working in the given country and profession. In this phase of the project, Danish for the mechatronic profession and Finnish for the plumber and fitter profession are now available . The language competency that can be acquired through the programme corresponds with levels A1 and A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will be clearly described in an e-portfolio and can be documented in “europass language passport”.

Useful ideas

Expected impacts will be supported by a strong valorisation strategy, which is the process of disseminating and exploiting project outcomes to meet user needs, with the ultimate aim of integrating and using them in training systems and practices at local, regional, national and European level. Dissemination and exploitation activities will undergo regular periodic review throughout the project to ensure they are suitable and appropriately adapted for EVME’s objectives.
