WEB – Women in European Business

Description

Description

WEB project will help women entrepreneurs to better use information and communication technologies (ICT) to promote innovation and improve their business competitiveness. This project sought to address Europe’s need for:

1. More women entrepreneurs and more women to create and grow small businesses.
2. More ICT capable, competitive, innovative and productive small businesses.
3. Quality and relevant enterprise learning and support systems for women so that they can tackle current economic and technology challenges.

This project will develop an innovative learning model to address these needs. It builds on an existing learning model for women creating & developing small businesses developed by The Women’s Organisation. It will adapt and improve this model of learning to integrate ICT capability and e-business activities with business planning and strategic development processes. The aim is to improve women-led SME innovation and competitiveness through improved ICT capability and increased e-business activities, where e-business is ‘the productive use of ICT to support both internal and external business processes’. The project targets women creating & developing SMEs, particularly those facing disadvantage in the labour market: employed by SMEs; BME and migrant women; other unemployed women and those living in deprived areas. Overall, the project will increase the number & value of women owned businesses contributing to the development of the EU as an advanced knowledge based society with sustainable economic development, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.

ladybizIT: Women Entrepreneurship on the verge of ICT

Comments/Description
“ladybizIT” will present 12 projects that have been pre-identified and evaluated to meet the quality criteria established by the consortium, that focus on women entrepreneurship and how ICT can be the means to entrepreneurship. Most of the selected projects are funded by the LLP (LdV, KA3 ICT, Grundtvig). Women entrepreneurship is facilitated by the familiarity and daily use of ICT. Moreover, these tools empower women to pursue a career as entrepreneurs while minimizing the barriers that limit equal entrepreneurial participation in an open market. Women constitute 30% of EU entrepreneurs and often face greater difficulties than men in starting up a business. The EC puts great effort to support women entrepreneurship by creating the appropriate conditions to improve the circumstances of women entrepreneurs, such as balancing family and professional life. Especially during the current economic crisis, women must be encouraged to launch their own businesses and spotlight trends on their role in sustainable economic recovery. Clearly, an important enabler to achieving a higher rate of women entrepreneurs is the access and use of ICT.
The main objective of the project “ladybizIT: Women Entrepreneurship on the verge of ICT” is to build up a solution-focused dialogue, through a set of interlinked and complementary dissemination actions (roundtables to build up dialogue, a call of papers to at the issue, an online campaign and promotional material to disseminate the project outcomes) that will prepare and lead into the organisation of a European Conference and Show Case with the ultimate aim to present in a scientific and ‘catchy’ way the results of 12 European projects, mostly LLP, that focus on women entrepreneurship and how ICT facilitates and fosters women entrepreneurship.
Thus, the project will contribute to provide new demands and directions that will benefit women in the pursuit of entrepreneurship while engaging policy makers, VET actors and other stakeholders at national and European level; a set of policy recommendations will be also drafted to target policy makers. The main target audience includes women seeking entrepreneurship; Women’s associations; Women entrepreneurs; Entrepreneurship institutes; VET institutions; policy makers; and Social partners.

    Women in Technical Education

Comments/Description
Partners from Italy, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Holland are active in Veneto Region to stimulate the dissemination of good practice on guidance about the choice of school. To achieve the goal innovative tools developed by partners from Germany, IHK, and Austria, University of Krems, will be transferred and tested in Veneto.
Development and competitiveness require in Italy a consideration of the new industrial work and the technical and scientific training, which in recent years has lost appeal compared to gymnasium.
The project aims at promoting technical education in particular towards a female audience, whose characteristics and attitudes effectively responds to the professional needs of manufacturing companies, resulting in substantial job opportunities. The goal is ambitious because it aims at a real change of mentality. The school choice might focus on ability, merit, interests, considering the existing gap between demand and supply of Italian graduate technicians. The project idea comes from the awareness that in order to promote the Country development and competitiveness it is necessary to reconsider the social value of the industrial work and to promote the technical and scientific training that has recently lost appeal compared to classical training.
Other European countries are in the same situation for similar reasons: a non sufficient young orienteering policy , the school can’t follow the market changes, the industrial policy is not linked to the training policy.
Promotion of technical training can be pursued even through an increase of girls enrolment to technical institutes, as girls normally have the proper skills and capabilities to satisfy the request of manufacturing industries.
The manufacturing sector is so technologically advanced that roles and positions are not only for man or only for women. It is therefore necessary a mind changing focusing on the high school choice based on skills, value and the interest for the subjects as there is now a gap of 110.00 unit between request and offer of graduated Italian technician.
The project aim is to improve the quality and the appeal of the technical training system in the involved countries, transferring the innovation existing in some partner countries: Germany and Austria.
Italy, Poland, Holland and Hungary represents, on the other hand, the countries trying to learn these new and successful instruments and initiatives in order to increase the number of girls attending technical institutes helping them starting a career once only for men.
In particular orienteering initiatives and tools will be imported in order to:
    • offer girls and their families information about technical training and its advantages in this economical context strongly based on the development and growth of manufacturing industries and their socio-economical context;
    • offer girls supporting instruments to think about their aptitudes and the training offer of the high school
    • create cooperation networks amongst middle schools – high schools – work sector, to promote technical training in the territory, particularly towards girls that have the skills to satisfy exactly the request of the work market.
In Italy this project is coordinated by Fondazione CUOA and transferred in the Veneto Region through the Regional body, Vicenza Industrial Association and the Technical Institut (high school) "Rossi" of Vicenza, that are involved in experimenting new initiatives and instruments of other European Country.
In particular, Vicenza Industrial Association and Technical Institut (high school) "Rossi" are part of the "Club dei 15" (Club of 15 Italian provinces with the highest levels of industrialization), could spread and promote the project in Italy in cooperation with Federmeccanica and thanks to the cooperation agreement that they signed in 2010 with the Ministry of Education.
